National Society of Black Engineers- University of Pittsburgh
"To increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community."
For the upcoming school year my Vision is all about "Forging the Foundation for our Future." The vision alludes to our roots as an organization, and is personally created to address the goals I and other executive board members have for the chapter this year.
Forge an allusion to my Pittsburgh roots, relying on the strong and powerful (like steel) mission of NSBE "To increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers...".
Foundation is the rock and base upon which we build our families, and our home withing our community.
Future meaning that what we accomplish here at Pitt NSBE today will help our members and others "excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community" for many years to come.
Our chapter’s goals are derived from the heart of our mission – “To increase the number…” We will increase our membership by providing direct mentorship and academic support; providing workshops for professional skills such as resumes, interviews, and finances; as well as encouraging participation in regional and national conferences. We will increase our involvement in the community by harvesting a NSBE Jr chapter, sustaining our relationships with afterschool programs, and reaching out to organizations that have had little to no prior STEM exposure. We will increase the NSBE family and pride by cultivating stronger relationships with other chapters by co-hosting general body meetings, collaborating for larger- scale events, and participating and nationwide programs and competitions.
